| What a strange month November was. |
[08 Dec 2002|05:41pm] |
I lost my webpage files (and my entire oldPC directory, with my entire Genecyst collecion, and gained an Xbox. I missed my exam (luckily it was deferred), and got a job.
That kind of weird month.
Anyway, back to recent history. We bought a Christmas tree yesterday, probably the nicest-looking one I've ever got. Fairly tall and perfectly shaped, and for just A$27 (us$15). Nice get. Thanks, Salvos.
(Salvos = Salvation Army).
I have my last Workplace Trainer class on Tuesday, we're going for a pub lunch to celebrate ^_^ Should be fun.

The various character themes of Soccer Slam |

"I'm from Down Under, but I'm on top now!"
- Boomer, Sega Soccer Slam.
Didn't get to work on my games.
You know what? When I checked on Sega Soccer Slam again yesterday, do you know the one store that had it? Take a peek at my post on the 20th and guess.
That's right. EB, they of the, "it's not on our release list at all, it's probably been canned". I love the world. Why had they received no info? I'll tell you why. It's because Infogrames Australia is actually, in disguise, my old buddies Sega Ozisoft. (Check my SA2 whinge from 27 June 01)
Ahh well. At least the PAL GameCube version has the Xbox extras in it.
On a sombre note, today I went to the Menzies Building (see 21 October... wow, I'm being damned self-referential today. Wonder if that's an in-built mood option?) The Wind Tunnel (the badly-designed entrance to the ground floor) was awash with bunches of flowers, even after they'd taken some away last Friday to be delivered to the families involved. I went to the sixth floor. Nothing there, 'cuz they're trying to get on with things. I slowed outside Room 657, but didn't look in like some rubber-neckers were doing. But overall it just looked like any other room in that building, and that scared me a bit 'cuz I've had tutes in rooms that look like that. (On floors 4 and 9, and years ago, mind you, but...)
Back to light note. I spent much of yesterday's class doodling faces based on a mood sheet we were given, I'd like to turn them into a mood set for LJ if I could figure how.

Not feeling particularly well. Coughing, cold, etc. (I'm wearing two jumpers and a shirt even though I'm safely indoors and outside it's what you Americans would call 52 degrees.)
Been playing with the "other languages" option in LiveJournal. I'd like to learn some of those languages. Esperanto I've had a go at and it looks pretty cool. It's a nice international language with the drawback it's based on European languages only. Perhaps a bit of Japanese/Chinese wold've been alright as well?
It's 11:30 pm. The TV outside is noisily finishing Joan of Arc featuring Milla Jovovich. GalaxyQuest was on earlier too, which I love. I dodn't watch it, because I love it to the degree that I have it on DVD and watch it regularly.
Speaking of movies, I went to see "The Nugget" yesterday. An fun Australian moie, ruined a bit by a minor argument that sprang up over my being too contrary. I am not. :P
Monday's my day off. I'm gonna work on my CnC games, I reckon. I'd work on SV but it's down 'till Nov.1. 'cos of bandwidth. Thinking of getting a domain name and DNS, prob is it'd set me back A$290 (US$150). =/
Whatever.

Monash University Incident
...I walk past that building on my way to and from the bus stop every week.
If the man went to the trouble of going to the 6th floor, it's probable there was a target, but still, I feel lucky not to have gone today to say the least...

The Whitlams - "Kate Kelly" |

So, it's been a year or so and I've finally decided to re-update my LiveJournal. Amazing.
I like Fridays now. They're payday - I got a job. So now every Friday I receive the salutary news that a certain amount of dollars have been sufficiently impressed by my work skills to transfer their allegiance from my workplace to me. As you can imagine, many of said dollars quickly find a new home at various electronics stores around my area.
My little brother bought Empire Earth, which is absolutely amazing. Age of Empires, except from the prehistoric past right up to the future history of the nanotechnology era... plus the Warcraft 3/ Black & White - esque ability to zoom in on the action with the mouse wheel. We've been taking screenies of our little battles on random maps.
I've been on a bit of a puzzle kick recently, my last few purchases were Columns Crown (GBA) Worms Blast (GCN) and ZooCube (GCN). Zoocube is weird. Weird with a capital G. I can honestly say in 14 years of gaming I have never before been required to reconstitute animal shapes. It also has one of the most overblown puzzle plots in history, which I will recount should I ever be bothered to. Suffice it to say the entire natural world depends on you.
My CnC games are coming along fine-ish. I've just done act 7 of BeyondSonic, using the background also as a cover for a custom CD I burnt. It has fish on it.
Collingwood lost the Grand Final last month. But they got to the Grand Final. Which puts them 2nd of 16 teams in the league.
Also encountered the strange wonderfulness of the Oekaki Java applet. I attempted to paint with it. Mine is of course the one under the name of Matt_TY.
Moo.

..so I guess I'll bring people up to speed on things.
I'm a bit impressed with SA2. Got 156 Emblems now, and all the extra costumes except Sonic's. No extra characters or Green Hill yet though.
Tails' red Tornado 1 mech rocks.
Just yesterday, got a set of 5 A's in a Stage for the first time. (Rouge's Dry Lagoon). So I'm pretty stoked with that.
Oh, and the mighty Collingwood Magpies, after hitting a form slump, bounced back and slaughtered the Western Bulldogs 119-77.
So pretty stoked, overall.

Sonic Adventure 2 - "Follow Me" - City Escape Theme |

Got it half an hour after it hit Australian shelves, on July 11th. Grr... Ozisoft...
Anyway. Current acheivements...
-Up to the Final Boss (I'm not spoiling the surprise) -About 54 emblems -Four Chao: Ray and Mighty (hero chao) Hungry (dark chao) and Dilbert (swimming chao). My lil' bro named those last two.
And how much does this game rock? I'll tell you. A fricken LOT. I dunno what the hell IGN were talking about with regards to voices, they're MUCH better than the SA1 voices IMHO. Tails' voice actor still seems a bit wooden, and other characters have some bad spots, but generally it's pretty good. Wish they'd fixed those camera angles though. Ahh well, it's still a 90%+ game.
Anyway.

b0x.com doesn't like outside linking. Sigh. Sorry 'bout that.
Copy 'n paste this link:
http://sonicveg.b0x.com/sound/md_son3_carn1.mid
It will work now, as I had it named wrong before. Also, I'd like to revise my statement about "the best Carnival Night Zone MIDI ever", 'cos I've just heard John Weeks' improved version, which is the job. I'd only heard his earlier version, which sucked, before. I still think mine's equal first or close second though.

Yes, I'm currently in the process of re-uploading SV to b0x.com. They gave me no reply, so I'm assuming they have no problem with me re-uploading. If they delete me again I'll take the hint.
Hope Collingwood wins. Last I checked it was three-quarter time and we were 5 points up. Nail-biting stuff.
Going to the job agency on Monday. Getting SA2 on Tuesday... well, hopefully. Knowing Ozisoft, I may wind up getting it in January.
Wrote a new MIDI of Carnival Night Zone Act 1. It's here. It's the best CNZ midi I've heard, if I do say so myself. And I do say so myself.

| Dear Ozisoft, |
[27 Jun 2001|12:31pm] |
A hypothetical question. Supposing, one day, you were to release a game... on time. What would you do? Seriously, is there anyone working for the company that has _any idea_ how to get a game onto Australian shelves within a month of its WORLDWIDE release date? I refer of course, to Sonic Adventure 2, which my local EB tells me is now delayed to the 3rd of July. Why? What alignment of the planets caused the problem _this_ time? You can't use "the network" as an excuse as you did with Chu Chu Rocket, because SA2 has stuff-all networking features for Australian audiences anyway. So what is it this time? Did a dog eat the release orders for the game? Did aliens beam up all the Australian-bound copies? Did the cargo ship from Europe take a detour to watch the total eclipse in South Africa? Or is your company simply run by idiots?
Yours,
Matthew C. Newman. Matt N

[25 Jun 2001|02:41pm] |
...spectator sport went well for me. The Mighty Magpies, still without Nathan Buckley, demolished 15th-place West Coast by 81 points. 173 to 92. The Aussie soccer team disposed of New Zealand 2-0 in NZ then 4-1 in Sydney. And Australia beat Pakistan in the cricket. Proof that the Pakistanis actually _can't_ beat us without having their fans start a pitch invasion. Hooray for Australian sport, and crap.
Oh, and I found the lyrics to '30 Seconds':
There's only 30 seconds left in this song If you got a stopwatch and tried to work it out Then you'd find around now that the time remaining Would equal 20 seconds, yeah Now it's down to (eighteen) Seventeen seconds, no time to rest If this was an ad you'd be impressed If you're in a hurry you won't be late 'Cos if for the end of this song you wait There's only four second's left (How long?) There's only one second le- Hehe. Classic.

I didn't get the job.
Not only that, but I haven't heard back from Freewebsites.com yet.
Not a happy bunny. I don't want to have to upload 30 plus megs on my crappy old 33.6k modem AGAIN.
Makes you wonder what "Customer Service" actually _means_. "Customer Ignoring"? "Customer Useless"? Sigh.
So I've spent the time d/ling MIDIs and text files, mostly about "Whose Line Is It Anyway?".
And stuff.

...I go to my Nan's, several hours drive away, to help her celebrate her 70th birthday. I come back and SONIC VEGEMITE IS DOWN! Not just down, TOTALLY DELETED! However, my account is stil active. Which is extremely grade-A strange. And it'll affect my hit count for a few weeks, but SV'll be back, freewebsites.com or no freewebsites.com. I'll find someone else if they won't play, but mark my words, we'll be back...
On a happier note, I've got a job interview at 10 am tomorrow at a new computer store that's just opened in my home town. I hope I get it, as it'd kick the absolute living crap out of the previous job I had at the delicatessen at my local supermarket. Wish me luck...

...I ACTUALLY UPDATED SONIC VEGEMITE! Amazing! Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled LiveJournal...
Here I am, the night before my last exam, doing a damned web-journal entry. Study? Nah, I get a headache looking at the damn notes. I did study for a while earlier this evening, then I took a 'break'. During which, I...
: Made issue 7 of my webcomic, : chatted on messageboards, : Updated Sonic Vegemite, and : wrote this.

Everyone's home now, so life is back to normal. Except of course that I still have an exam in the morning. And I have a killer headache. But I did good. I kept this house in order myself for several days. And everything's normal. Was one blemish. I didn't put the lights in the frog cage on this morning. Ah well, no one's perfect.
I still have a killer headache.
|
|
| Hmm... |
[06 Jun 2001|01:18am] |
So I got myself a web-journal, hey? Yet another distraction to prevent me from updating Sonic Vegemite with any decent regularity. Geez, I been that damn busy though... in the last month I've had 5 assignments to do, and now exams. I've had 2 of 'em, 3 to go... sheesh! It's nearly over. I'm alone in the house ontil the afternoon. It's 1 am here at the moment. Perhaps I should sleep? Nah.
I got some good marks for some of my assignments, including a 50 out of 50 with which I am stoked. Can't complain about that.
Bit lonely, was worried a bit before 'cos I thought I damaged something while the house is in my care... but it'll be right. A motto for today: If you've got stressful times, there'll be a point in your life where you'll look back at it and laugh. Nothing's so serious you can't laugh about it eventually.
